Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is a wonderful festival that brings people from different countries together for a week of competitions and celebrations. Although the main focus of the event is on music and dance, Routes into Languages Cymru feel that it is very important to also celebrate this coming together of different languages and cultures.

We will therefore be joining the festivities by having an exhibition stand at the Eisteddfod. Our stand will be a fun place to be with lots of things to see and do. We will be there all week, so, whether you’re planning on visiting the Eisteddfod with your school during the week or with your family and friends at the weekend, make sure you come to find us.

Routes into Languages Cymru has selected a team of undergraduate students who are ready to share their enthusiasm for language learning.
 

They can offer:
• Motivational talks to small groups or assemblies
• Language taster sessions
• Advice about studying languages at university
• Information about spending time abroad
• E-mentoring
• Oral revision sessions
• Support for Welsh Baccalaureate

Here at Routes Cymru we are aware of the declining numbers of pupils opting to take an MFL at KS4 and beyond. We are here to do everything we can to help change this situation and to show young people the importance of being able to speak another language.

We know that teachers are already working very hard to promote language learning, and we want to get the pupils involved too. Who could be better at promoting languages within the school/college than the pupils who have already opted to study them?
 

Routes Cymru has funding available to support schools in involving young people in projects that will raise the profile of MFL and help increase the take-up of languages in their schools/colleges.

This year we will be at the Urdd Eisteddfod all week. We will have fun games, craft activities and there will plenty of opportunities to try out your language skills.

The linguistic map of Wales is changing and an increasingly wide range of languages is spoken by learners in schools and colleges. The Welsh Assembly Government, CILT Cymru, CILT, the National Centre for Languages and ContinYou Cymru are conducting a survey on provisions of community languages in Wales.
