The Language Resource Centre at Newcastle University has a small team in place, which will be available from Mid-January for virtual school visits, synchronous and asynchronous to promote language learning, and inter-cultural activities in line with the Routes into Languages aims. Students and staff from Northumbria University visit ‘hub’ schools to present their diverse and fun introduction to continued language learning. They aim to give Key Stage 3 linguists a motivational boost through the exciting range of Q&A sessions, language tasters, quizzes, and a take-home parent/pupil pack.

Pupils will work with native speakers of their target language to write
and produce their own storyboards. They'll join us in the award winning
Open Access Centre of Newcastle University to use the latest on-line
resources and SANAKO language labs.
Other activities include a campus tour, Q&A sessions with student
ambassadors and a taster session in a new language.

Routes NE invites AS and A2 candidates to explore a NE university campus, meet uni staff and students, try a new language, and improve their German!

Teachers will participate in a session led by the Goethe Institut. Details TBC.

The number of pupils schools may bring depends on interest in registration. We expect the maximum to be 12 pupils.

Please ensure your pupils have eaten lunch before they arrive.

NB: Photos may be taken at this event to be used in further publicity. Please bear this in mind when recruiting your pupils!

A-level Masterclass (Teesside, 5th November)

Tyneside Cinema French Film Day - FULLY BOOKED

Using Klapisch's 2002 film L'Auberge Espagnol (Pot Luck) as a focus text, this event addresses themes including identity, relationships, and young people in contemporary European culture and society. The film will also be used as a basis for speaking and listening exercises, discussion and role-play, providing lots of opportunities to practice your French. Resources are provided. Led by Dr Sarah Leahy, Newcastle University.

 

A-level Masterclass (Durham 22nd Oct)

Hour 1: A-level Masterclass. Pupils work at their target language with university language teachers and students.

Hour 2: Language Taster. Pupils experience a language they have not learnt before, gaining an insight into the culture and countires where the language is spoken.
