The Language Resource Centre at Newcastle University has a small team in place, which will be available from Mid-January for virtual school visits, synchronous and asynchronous to promote language learning, and inter-cultural activities in line with the Routes into Languages aims. Using Guillermo Del Toro’s 2001 film The Devil’s Backbone (rated 15) as a focus text, this event addresses contemporary Spanish culture and society. The film will also be used as a basis for speaking and listening exercises, discussion and role-play, providing lots of opportunities to practice your Spanish. Resources are provided. Led by Dr Ann Davies, Newcastle University and Jackie Collins, University of Northumbria.

This is not a Routes NE event, but one organised by our stakeholders and regional partners, Comenius NE under the management of Dr Michael Wardle.

The conference is for teachers and education specialisits.  Sessions address a variety of issues facing MFL education including the transition from primary through to secondary; and the plenary takes the axis of challenge and engagement as its focus.

Sessions include:-

'How to engage year 9 pupils via challenge and creativity' with Martine Pillette

'The transition; practical strategies to help with the Y6-7 issue' with Carmel O'Hagan

Languages are Brill hits Newcastle campus. This event offers Year 8 pupils a selection of taster sessions as well as an insight into university life and language learning.
