These sessions are designed to enhance students’ language skills and allow them to experience a little of university life at the same time. Students may choose either French or Spanish and will spend the day focusing on improving oral and listening skills. Our themes this year are ‘Around the World with French!’ and ‘Around the World with Spanish!’

Same French / Spanish programme run on both days, schools pick ONE day. The day will start at 9.30 am and finish at 3 pm.

The objectives of this day are to:
- provide a taster of language study in a University environment to develop/raise aspiration to HE and in particular to the study of MFL Post 16 and beyond;
- support the curriculum in areas associated with MFL;
- stimulate and challenge students in the practical application of language skills.

The day, running from 10.00 – 2.30 will focus on three languages, French, Spanish and German or a lesser taught subject designed to provide the opportunity for participants to “learn a language from scratch”. The visit will include a campus tour and the opportunity to spend time with current UWE students to gain a real insight into life as a student in higher education.

We are pleased to confirm that we'll continue our language ambassadors' mentoring scheme at schools this year. Our undergraduate students, some of whom are native French, German, Spanish, Italian and Chinese speakers, come into schools for a maximum of 6 hours per week and work alongside the class teacher providing support during MFL lessons. In the case of the native speakers, they could be used almost as FLAs, whilst the undergraduate students could support individual pupils on a one-to-one basis or work with small groups. All the students will have received appropriate training and will have been CRB checked.
