We are very excited to launch a brand new multi-lingual poetry competition in Wales called Mother Tongue Other Tongue 2013. This will give young people across the country the opportunity to celebrate their home languages and also to get creative in other languages they are learning at school.

This competition was run in Manchester last year and was such a success that Britain’s Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy has adopted this project as a UK Laureate Education Project and is encouraging all young people across the whole of the UK to get involved. In Wales, we are very lucky to have support from our National Poet, Gillian Clarke and also multi-lingual poet, Mererid Hopwood.

Working in partnership with Literature Wales and Cardiff University, we are bringing this competition to the young people of Wales. For more details about the competition read the HOW TO ENTER information. The closing date for entries is Friday, 24th May 2013.

This poster can be used to encourage young people to take part.

The winning entries will be showcased at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July and will also be in with a chance to represent Wales at a National Celebration Event in Manchester in the autumn.
