New Regional Support Centres for Languages: Links into Languages

Region:
National

Links into LanguagesLinks into Languages is a consortium of the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS), Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and Association for Language Learning (ALL) which has been commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to build a nationally co-ordinated network of Regional Support Centres for Languages. A programme of high quality professional development and support will be offered by nine Regional Centres from April 2009, together with funding for development projects carried out by teachers.

Our vision is to create a learning community where language teachers in primary, secondary and further education institutions can participate in a coherent programme of high quality CPD and support. The Regional Centres will be based on the Routes into Languages regional consortia which bring together teachers and learners in schools and universities A common core of training will be available across the country and provision will be tailored to regional and local needs.

We shall seek to promote closer cooperation with other providers and stakeholders to achieve more coherent provision; to deliver information, advice, and interactive and professional development materials, in person and online; and to encourage face to face and web-based networking and sharing of good practice between teachers.
