The aim is to inform students in years 11 to 13, and also their teachers, and careers advisers, about varied opportunities to study Modern Languages at university.
Employability is one of the day’s themes, along with curiosity and enjoyment, and the ability to combine Modern Languages with all sorts of other degree subjects.
Break-out sessions for Years 11-13 showcase the range of learning experiences we offer. Students returning from their year abroad will tell their stories.
There is no charge. We provide tea/coffee for all in the morning break, and vouchers will be issued for lunch which can be redeemed in a selection of campus refectories.

Introduction to Interpreting (Examples from French & Spanish: Jo Langley & Patricia Rodriguez-Martinez) Language Laboratory C – Keir Hardie As well as a career option for specialists, interpreting between individuals who cannot understand each other can be an everyday activity in the workplace. This session will show you some of the basic techniques and give you an impression of what it is like to study for an interpreting qualification. |
Euro Pop: Learning Language through Song (Examples from French & German: Tom Cheesman) Faraday C Despite its sometimes un-cool image there is a rich contemporary tradition of popular song-writing as Continental Europe. Pop songs can teach you everyday vocabulary that you do not often come across in the classroom. Songs also have rhythms and rhymes which can make language learning more straightforward because words and tunes stay in your mind. |
