Press Release – The UK’s first online Study Abroad Q&A Day

By Lizzie Fane, Third Year Abroad

Third Year Abroad is launching the UK’s first Study Abroad Q&A Day, where students can get all their questions answered online by the biggest names in international placements.

Students and parents can ask questions during the university holidays about studying and working abroad.

Useful, relevant organisations will be answering questions online all day, including the British Council Language Assistant team, Erasmus+, European Commission Representation in the UK, Year Abroad Insurance, Student Loans Company, Universities UK International Unit, Third Year Abroad and top UK universities.

The session will take place on Tuesday 12th August on TYAanswers.com, to mark the launch of Third Year Abroad’s new website, TYA Answers

Over 20,000 UK students are currently preparing to spend a semester or year abroad as part of their degree course. Many find it difficult to get advice during the university holidays, as experienced graduates and staff may have dispersed for the summer, but they still need advice about subjects including course requirements, documentation and funding arrangements.

To help solve this problem, Third Year Abroad is launching a new Q&A website, TYA Answers, in partnership with Routes into Languages, to provide a place where students can ask and answer questions about studying or working abroad during their degree.

Lizzie Fane, Founder of Third Year Abroad, promises that the new site will not only help current undergraduates, but also play a part in inspiring younger students. She says:

“Students have so many questions about their semester or year abroad, especially as for many this is their first experience of living overseas and previously there has been very limited access to real people giving expert advice. We are launching TYA Answers to give them a place to share their experiences in a helpful and supportive way. I hope that by demystifying the whole process this will also inspire other students to take a chance and add an international element to their degree course.”

To mark the launch of the new website on Tuesday 12th August, leading organisations involved in International Education are coming together on TYA Answers to answer questions about studying and working abroad.

As an open forum, students and parents are encouraged to ask organisations including the British Council, Erasmus+ and The Student Student Loans Company about topics including language learning, funding availability, study abroad destinations, culture shock, career opportunities for global graduates, homesickness, Joint Honours degree courses, finding accommodation and work placements.

The website launches just in time for a new cohort of students going abroad abroad to ask all their burning questions about their intended destinations gives students who have just returned form their year abroad the opportunity to share their wisdom.

Third Year Abroad is the UK’s biggest network of students who study, work or volunteer abroad during their degree. Students can read ‘Mole Diaries’ – insider guides to cities written by students who have been through the process already. The site aims to raise awareness of international opportunities during a degree course, and to promote the study of Modern Languages in the UK.

TYA Answers  is a new live platform where students can ask and answer questions about their international experience.

Students and parents can follow the Q&A on 12th August via the hash tag: #TYAanswers
