Mother Tongue Other Tongue is a celebration of young people’s poetic writing reflecting different languages they speak as a first language or at home, or that are learning. We welcome submissions from young people aged 7-18 in schools and communities across the North East. Everyone will receive a certificate and we will share selected pieces through our Stories page.

Theatre Sans Frontieres presents songs from Les Aventures de Lapin, a theatrical production based on folktales from the French-speaking Caribbean – performed in simple French for 7-11 year olds – Primary Schools and families learning at home. Three delectable songs in French to transport your class to the Caribbean. Easy to learn. Lyrics and recordings available online.

Como Agua Para Chocolate/ Like Water for Chocolate is a theatre production in Spanish and English from Théâtre sans Frontières – made available as a pre-recorded film.

With a music and lively performances from a cast from Spain, Mexico, Nicaragua, USA and UK, this is a vibrant adaptation of Laura Esquival’s magical book about love, food and the Mexican Revolution

Suitable for A Level Spanish students, secondary schools, sixth forms and adults (communities and general public).


“Let’s speak Geordie” – an introduction to the Geordie dialect.

A ‘canny’ opportunity for you to practise some Geordie phrases in this live, fun, interactive workshop.  It is designed for people whose mother tongue is not English, to help you get to grips with the local Geordie dialect. This includes: international students, people from diverse communities, community schools and community colleges, members of arts and culture organisations, who come from different countries.
