Mother Tongue Other Tongue West Midlands Winners!

We are very pleased to announce our West Midlands winners for the 2015 Mother Tongue Other Tongue Poetry competition! The standard of the entries was very high this year and we are very proud to have such talented and multilingual poets in our region!

Other Tongue KS3

Winner:  “El Ausencia de la Luz” - Amy Gasser, Year 9, Abbots Bromley School (Spanish)

Highly commended: “Un Gritto de Guerra” – Jessica Andrews, Year 9, Abbots Bromley School (Spanish)

Other Tongue KS5

Winner: “Brûler vivante” – Annie Maguire, Year 13, King Edward VI High School for Girls (French)
Highly commended: “Les langues étrangères” – Maria Olejnik, Year 13, Adcote School for Girls (French/German/Spanish/Italian)

Mother Tongue KS3
Winner: “Русский ум /The Russian Mind” - Jessica Sheppard, Year 9, Abbots Bromley School (Russian)
Highly commended: “Sant Jordi” – Laia Tomas, Year 9, Abbots Bromley School (Catalan)

Mother Tongue KS4

Winner: “Le Transsiberien” – Claire Bourgelle, Year 10, Abbots Bromley School (French)
Highly commended: “Yellow Crane Tower” - Irene Lu, Year 10, Abbots Bromley School (Chinese)

Mother Tongue KS5

Winner: “Nic dwa razy” - Maria Olejnik, Year 13, Adcote School for Girls (Polish)

 

All winners will be contacted shortly and invited to attend the National Celebration Event at Manchester Metropolitan University on Monday 29th June 2015.

Many thanks as well to all other participating schools and we do hope you will continue writing and enter the competition again in future! We have had some excellent poems and hope to showcase them on our website shortly.
