Wednesday 12th May – Wednesday 23rd June (with no class on Wed 2nd June)
Room 238, Geoffrey Manton Building, All Saints Campus (see link for map)
14.00 – 16.00

Through past and contemporary examples of the work of Italian actresses and female film directors, we will explore some aspects of the changing social background of Italy since the late 1950s and 1960s and how the role of women has evolved and adapted in response to those changes. The individual sessions will provide ample opportunities for discussion.

This six-week course is an ideal follow-up to the one already run by Adalgisa Serio at the Cornerhouse cinema. However, attendance on the previous course is not a prerequisite.

Two hours per week for six weeks (12 hrs in total)

Full fee: £100.00
Concessionary fee: £75.00 (MMU staff, students, senior citizens, unwaged)

Lingua e Cinema (Language and Cinema)
Thursday 13th May – Thursday 24th June (with no class on Thursday 3rd June)
Room 238, Geoffrey Manton Building, All Saints Campus (see link for map)
14.00 – 16.00

This course is aimed at students who already have some knowledge of the Italian Language.

Based on the viewing and analysis of Italian films, the course will offer ample scope for practising the language through the exploration and analysis of a range of aspects of Italian cinema.

Activities are devised in order to work both on meaningful sequences taken from the films and to encourage a debate in Italian following the viewing of the full film.

Borrowing the title from one of Vittorio De Sica’s masterpieces, the common theme will be I bambini ci guardano (Children are Watching us).

Two hours per week for six weeks (12 hrs in total)

Full fee: £100.00
Concessionary fee: £75.00 (MMU staff, students, senior citizens, unwaged)

Both Italian courses will be led by Adalgisa Serio, Italian Lecturer at The Manchester College and CDLCI and associate lecturer at MMU; regular contributor to Italian film and educational courses at the Cornerhouse cinema and co-author of Collana Cinema Italia published by Edilingua.
