Date:
Friday, 11 November, 2011 - 00:00
Event Type:
Workshop
Region:
South East
Location:
Newport County Cricket Club - Isle of Wight

The event runs from 9am-3pm and involves able linguists from the five Isle of Wight High Schools who are studying in year 11 for their GCSEs in French, Spanish, Italian and German.

The day begins with introductory talks by a range of businesses who will demonstrate to students how useful their languages will be in the world of work and enterprise.

The main focus of the day will be a work related challenge set around a scenario based at a fictitious cruise-line. The students will have to produce posters, radio jingles and a presentation linked to the challenge in the foreign language. They will have access to ‘Tour Operators’ from the country where the language is spoken and will be expected to speak only in the foreign language. The ‘tour Operator’ role will be played by trainee teachers at Portsmouth University who will also have the opportunity to learn how an enterprise day is organised and run.
