"Why Study Languages?" Presentations for Parents

Date:
Wednesday, 28 October, 2015 - 00:00 to Friday, 29 April, 2016 - 00:00
Event Type:
Workshop
Region:
North East
Location:
Your school

Here at Routes into Languages North East we recognise that it isn't just pupils who may need convincing about the many benefits of continued language study! We're on hand to support your school by delivering bespoke 'Why Study Languages?' presentations to parents, governors and school staff at Parents' Evenings, GCSE Options and Sixth Form Options Evenings throughout the school year.

What are the options?

- Parents’ Evening presentation for pupils and parents

- GCSE Option Evening presentation for pupils and parents

- Presentation to School SMT & Governors

We like to keep our presentations interactive, so for smaller groups we adopt a workshop-style with small group work and structured Q&A sessions. We are happy to fit into your department's strategy for motivating pupils and will do our best to fit your agenda.

Have we seen this presentation before?

We try to revamp our presentations every year, but yes, you may have heard some similar arguments before. However, our students are always enthused and convey their passion for languages with every word... and their personal experiences and reasons for learning languages are always very varied.

Does this cost a lot?

Due to our reduced funding we are now charging the small fee of £50 per visit. This includes two student ambassadors coming to your school for up to half a day or, for example, for an evening. Should you require more than this then we will happily negotiate a price with you. We hope you'll agree that this is excellent value for money.

Please also be aware that, in the case of visits to schools, a £50 administration fee will ordinarily be levied on cancellations made without reasonable cause with less than two working days’ notice. Please take this into consideration when making a booking.

Programme:

These visits are bespoke but could include:-

- Why Study Languages

- Employability and Careers with Languages tips

- University jargon buster

- University language routes

- Year Abroad testimonials

Booking information:

Please click the link above and complete the form to register your interest for a visit. If possible, please include details of the proposed date, timing and the intended audience (e.g. year group) in the additional space provided. Once the registration form has been received, a member of our team will be in touch to discuss arrangements further.

Despite being a very enthusiastic bunch, please also be aware that our Student Language Ambassadors, as current university students, may not be available during or in the run up to examination periods and during university vacations. As such, whilst we cannot absolutely guarantee availability for visits at any time, it is unlikely that Student Language Ambassadors will be able to commit to work during the following periods:

  • 21st December 2015 – 8th January 2016
  • 18th January – 29th January 2016
  • 14th March – 8th April 2016
  • 9th May – 10th June 2016
