Oxford German Olympiad: Von Pop bis Poesie

Returning for another year, the Oxford German Network offers a new Olympiad theme of Pop und Poesie (Pop & Poetry) for students in years 5-13. This competition encourages students of German to find out about music and poetry in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

 

The competition tasks are as follows:

Years 5 & 6

Write out and illustrate a short German-language poem or nursery rhyme

Write an acrostic poem in German

 

Years 7-9

Design a poster for a composer, musician or pop group

Recreate a German poem or song as a comic strip

Write a brochure about the music and/or literary history and/or current activities of a city or region

 

Years 10 & 11

Write a story in response to a German song or poem

Write a review of a performance by a musician, group or poet

Make a short film in response to a German song or poem

 

Years 12 & 13

Make a short film in response to a German song or poem

Write a newspaper review of a concert by a musician or group

Translate a poem into English

 

Open competition for groups or classes (4+ participants)

Design a game with instructions to help players learn about German music

Write and perform a rap which teaches an aspect of German grammar

Re-write a German song

 

Entries must be submitted by 12 noon on Monday 2nd March 2015. Full competition and entry guidelines can be found here. PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING OR YOUR ENTRY MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED.
