The University of Birmingham, with Routes into Languages, is hosting a  Languages and Martial Art Sports event for Year 8 students on Friday 20th June 2014.

 

The day will include language tasters in Japanese, Korean and Portuguese, as well as the chance to try Tai Chi, Wado Ryu Karate, Taekwondo and Capoeira.

9:30 – 10:00

School groups may arrive between 9:30-10am for a start at 10

Arrival and registration

10:00 – 10:15

Welcome talk and introduction to the programme

10:15 – 11:00

  • Session 1 on Chinese / Japanese / Portuguese / Korean languages

11:00 – 11:15

Break

11:15 – 12:00

  • Session 2 on Chinese / Japanese / Portuguese / Korean languages

12:00 – 12:15

       Break

12:15 – 12:45

  • Session 3 on Chinese / Japanese / Portuguese / Korean languages

12:45 – 13:30

       Lunch

(Please bring packed lunch or purchase on campus. Drinks will be provided)

13:30 – 13:45

Walk and mini tour or campus to Munrow Sports Centre (R25 in the Red zone)

13:45 – 13:55

Changing to PE kit (if necessary)

14:00 – 15:30

  • Chinese (Tai Chi) / Japanese (Wado Ryu Karate) / Korean (Taekwondo) martial arts and Capoeira (Portuguese) demonstrations and training

15:30 - 15:40

15:45 – 16:00

  • Certificates, feedback and goodbyes
 
 
Please make sure your students bring a packed lunch and are dressed in their PE kit (or dress in sport wear).
 
 
Please note that Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Korean only will be available on that day
