Following the film screening, students will discuss in German the main aspects of the film, aided by worksheets. This will be done in plenary and in small groups.
Students will complete language activities before and after watching the film and are encouraged to communicate through written and spoken German.

Led by Maggie Hoffgen, Freelance Film Educator.

Screening: Barbara CTBA
Dir Christian Petzold / Germany 2012 / 105 mins / In German with English subtitles / Nina Hoss, Ronald Zehrfeld, Rainer Bock, Christiana Hecke
Petzold’s latest feature is an intense Cold War drama that deftly negotiates the personal and the political. It is the summer of 1980 and young doctor Barbara (the excellent Nina Hoss) has requested an exit visit from the GDR. Punished by the authorities for her desire to leave for the West, Barbara is sent to work out in the sticks, far from the capital. It is in this rural hospital that Barbara meets Andre, her puzzling new boss, and Stella, the young runaway whom she is desperate to protect.

Booking required.
