EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

DURHAM, 25TH SEPTEMBER 2014

 

A celebration of language and culture in the centre of Durham

 

Carousel of FREE activities for primary schools: Designed to inform, interest and enthuse pupils about other languages and cultures

 

Palace Green, Durham - 11am-2pm

Taking place the day before the official date, this event is a fantastic opportunity for primary schools in Country Durham to kickstart their European Day of Languages celebrations. Routes into Languages North East is proud to be supporting this event alongside organisers Durham University, Durham County Council and Europe Direct North East.

 

The team can accommodate three groups of up to thirty pupils and staff throughout the day. Pre-booking is available via Durham County Council.There will also be FREE activities in Durham Market Place and Town Hall for which no pre-booking is required.

Programme: 

Palace Green, Durham - 11am-2pm

      

  1. Language tasters & language trail – from Palace Green Library – to stimulate interest in learning other languages
  2. “Language barriers” – knock down and re-build the Berlin Wall: an interactive activity based around cultural difference and similarity focussing on language, culture and borders
  3. World Cup warm-down – a team-based light-exercise activity, designed to help relate to other countries
