Who are we?

The National Network for Translation is part of Routes into Languages, a governmental initiative that funded 14 projects in England, including the National Network for Translation.

Issues identified by Routes into Languages

Routes into Languages identified the following issues:

National shortage of first language English translators and interpreters
Concentration on Western European Languages in current HE translation course provision
Low national profile of careers in translation
Need to develop stronger cooperation between course providers and potential employers

The National Network for Translation

In order to address the above issues the National Network for Translation:

Generates promotional material and organises information events
Develops and rolls out module templates for non Western European languages in translation
Develops and rolls out existing structured programmes of work placement for translation students
Increases synergy between the education sector and employers
Organises training events based on the partners' expertise

Activities and events

Activities will include:

Day-long events for careers advisors
Translation-themed events at secondary schools
School talks involving professional translators
