Languages and your future Want to know more about how langages can help your career prospects? Routes into Languages has produced Languages and your future, a resource aimed at secondary school pupils to encourage them to learn languages by telling them about the employability benefits of knowing a foreign language. It combines languages, skills and professions to show pupils how they are all linked and to encourage them to think about the skills you gain by learning a language.
Routes into Languages East partners, the University of Cambridge Language Centre has gathered a selection of video 'talking heads' from students at Cambridge who are studying languages for various purposes. We hope that these will inform people making their GCSE and A level choices and considering applying to Cambridge. The students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and offer their perspectives on living and studying in Cambridge and on their experiences and motivations for studying languages.
Routes into Languages East has commissioned a collection of materials to use with year 9. The materials consist of about one hour's pre-teaching for the film and one hour's teaching after watching the film. Series Editor is Rachel Hawkes of Comberton Village College. We were very fortunate to be able to watch the films at the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse, having piloted the materials with year 9 pupils from local Cambridgeshire schools. Let us know what you think... We continue to develop more materials - so far, we have the following:
