British Council Wales, in partnership with CILT Cymru and Routes into Languages Cymru, will be hosting a free event for pupils in Year 8, 9 and 10 which offers them the opportunity to learn about the benefits and rewards of continuing their language studies and trains them to take on the role of Pupil Language Ambassadors back in school.
Workshops on the day will include:
Language taster sessions
Fun games and competitions
Led by Modern Language Assistants and University Student Language Ambassadors.
Opportunities to plan future MFL profile raising events in your school
The pupils will also be able to take part in the National Pupil Language Ambassador Team of the Year competition.
The Pupils Language Ambassador (PLA) Scheme Project was launched by CILT Cymru and Routes Cymru in 2013/14. The aim of the project is to train groups of pupils within schools to take ownership of promoting the value of foreign language learning. PLAs go on to organize events and activities within the school community in partnership with their teachers as well as outside bodies such as a CILT Cymru Business Language Champion and Routes Cymru Student Language Ambassadors. The project has proved to be a great success, with participating schools seeing positive changes in attitude towards language learning and a subsequent rise in pupils continuing with their MFL study in Key Stage 4.
