Date of press release: 27 November 2007
With activity to promote language learning set to intensify as the Routes into Language project takes off, here's an activity to get students thinking about point of learning another language and producing a useful resource at the same time. The competition, run by CILT, involves creating a two minute video clip that presents the most convincing case for being able to speak more than one language. It can be an interview, an animation, a sketch or even some sort of spoof - the funnier the better!
The competition is open to individuals and to groups of students aged 13-21, and uses YouTube as a platform to display entries. It's something that Undergraduate Ambassadors could get going with groups of students when they visit schools, or it could be done on a day off timetable like the European Day of Languages or as an extra-curricular project with a language assistant, newly qualified teacher or trainee teacher.
For further details go to our microsite at www.youtube.com/routesintolanguages - we've highlighted some existing video clips there you may find interesting!
The deadline for entries is the 31st March 2008.
Prizes include a state of the art video camera, trips abroad and other goodies. Winning clips will be screened in prestigious London venues like the Institut Français, the Instituto Cervantes or the Goethe Institut, as well as becoming part of CILT's Languages Work resources. Look out for our celebrity endorsements and judging panel to be confirmed shortly!
