Language Enrichment Events

Our experienced language tutors have created a range of lesson plans and materials designed to introduce pupils to a language and culture they have not studied before. These language tasters cover a variety of topics and are available to download, as are a series of cultural quizzes that proved very popular with the pupils.

Cornerhouse Project

With support from Film: 21st Century Literacy and the UK Film Council, this year Cornerhouse in collaboration with Routes into Languages North West (COLT) is offering a new subject strand in COMMUNITY LANGUAGES. Students and teachers of Arabic, Urdu, Mandarin and Italian can enjoy a fantastic series of FREE cinema-based study sessions and Creative Workshops, using film and digital technology to develop and promote the study of community and lesser taught languages.

As part of the Projector Cornerhouse Project, a Teacher's Toolkit was produced on "Using Film to Teach Languages" . Please click here to download it from the Cornerhouse website.

Teacher Training Presentations

As part of the COLT Project, we run Autumn and Spring Teacher Training Courses in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Urdu. We also run a Summer Top Up Workshop for those who have completed the course.

The Teacher Training course run by COLT involves:
• A training workshop
• A visit to a mainstream school
• A second training workshop
• An observation visit by the Trainers of the teachers
