Felicitaciones a St Michael's CE First School: Colegio Español del Año

Category: North East news

Congratulations to the staff and pupils at St Michael's CE First School in Alnwick who have recently been awarded the Colegio Español del Año (Spanish School of the Year) award by the Spanish Embassy.

St Michael's was one of five schools awarded in the primary category at the ceremony in London.  They were the only first school in the country to be awarded and the only school north of Manchester in their category.

The school was awarded the honour after proving to judges that Spanish was fully embedded across the whole curriculum and across all 3 Key Stages in the school.  St Michael's non-conventional approach (using songs, story-telling and ICT) to teaching Spanish was also praised, as were the extra-curriculur activities involving Spanish.

St Michael's is twinned with CP Torrente Ballester in Parla, Madrid, and this has helped the students learn about the Spanish culture, as well as helping the school earn an e-Twinning award.

Congratulations from everyone at Routes into Languages North East!
