Summer’s here at last! With the summer holidays almost upon us, many consortia are looking forward to a well earned August break before the new school year gets under way. June and July have been buzzing with Routes into Languages activity, so here’s the latest from across the regions in England.

28th July – West Midlands
These 3-day courses are held at the University of Birmingham for gifted and talented Y12 pupils. They combine an introduction to the languages with an introduction to Chinese and Japanese culture.
28th July – East
An opportunity for pupils from years 7, 8 & 9 to have fun learning a new language and finding out about its culture.

18th – 25th September, organised by the French Institute

24th September - Yorkshire and the Humber
The evening will be an opportunity to find out what this exciting and innovative project is about, and discover ways you can become involved in shaping the languages agenda for the region.

Supporting the West Midlands Consortium for Routes into Languages, the post will develop and co-ordinate new initiatives and promote outreach activities to encourage the study of Modern Foreign Languages. Closing date: Friday 1st August 2008.
7th – 9th July
LLAS and CILT held a joint conference in York, with delegates from universities throughout England focusing on the theme “Transitions and Connections”. Routes into Languages was well represented through a stream of workshops held by the regional consortia, networks and research projects.
