The Creative Skills in Learning Languages project developed out of collaboration between the Learning Advisors in SOAS who support students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) and the Routes into Languages project. It recognises that students’ with SpLDs have a lot to offer young learners of languages. They have had to develop creative strategies for learning and also usually have a high level of motivation to succeed in order to overcome the impact of their learning difficulties. The model we use is that the school workshops are run by SOAS students who have a specific learning difficulty. The training is carried by ex SOAS students under the guidance of the Learning Advisors.
Digital Storytelling promotes an alternative way of supporting language learning as well as the use of multimedia IT resources in schools in different contexts; in particular to support learner autonomy. Students narrate stories in the target language based on images, through animated presentations deveopled on computer software. This project was adapted for Capital L by LSE Language Centre.

Inspired by the Learning to Lead project, Language Leaders utilises pupil-to-pupil influence in order to encourage interest in languages across the entire school. A team of 15 students from across all year groups are recruited, selected, and trained to organise language related events and activities for the rest of the school. The Language Leaders plan a calendar of activities at the beginning of the project, and are then supported throughout by regular mentoring from 2 student ambassadors. Whilst raising the profile of language learning across the school, the project also provides students with an opportunity to develop key employability skills, like team work, oral and written communication skills, influencing and negotiating skills as well as experience of event organising.
