The aim is to inform students in years 11 to 13, and also their teachers, and careers
advisors, about varied opportunities to study Modern Languages, including the BA in
Translation. Languages can be taken ‘pure’, or combined with many other subjects, and
(except French) can be studied from scratch, or following A-level, AS-level or GCSE.
Employability is one of the day’s themes, along with curiosity and enjoyment, and the
ability to combine Modern Languages with all sorts of other degree subjects.
Break-out sessions for Years 11-13 showcase the range of learning experiences we
offer. Students returning from their year abroad will tell their stories. A couple of sessions
are for teachers and careers advisors: a chance to discuss with members of our
recruitment, admissions, and schools/colleges liaison teams, and with other colleagues.
There is no charge. We provide tea/coffee for all in the morning break, and a buffet lunch
for staff – as well as a lunchtime salsa dancing exhibition!
Please see the attached programme for details, and let us know by 13 August if you
intend to come, with estimated numbers. You can reply by email to Kat Jennings: k.jennings@swansea.ac.uk
