The programme is hosted by the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, based at Southampton

Mike Kelly is a specialist in modern French culture and society, especially the history of ideas and Franco-British cultural relations. He plays a leading role in developing public policy on languages and cultural diversity, in the UK and across Europe. He is Director of the UK Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies, within the Higher Education Academy, and Hon. Secretary of the European Language Council.
Mike is currently Head of the School of Humanities at the University of Southampton, and is strongly committed to encouraging collaborative projects in research and education that bring together specialists from several disciplines and from several countries. He reckons that directing the Routes programme involves wearing a lot of hats.
